DVA Awareness and Safety
Course Overview
Domestic Violence/Abuse Awareness & Safety training is
available to everyone in Relate whatever their role. It is a
foundation course for all other DVA training within Relate. It does
not equip the person attending to offer assessment of DVA with an
individual or a couple or to offer couple intervention work.
The course aims to improve the quality of service for victims of
DVA & their children, the quality of response to those who
abuse their partners or ex/partners & increase the confidence
skills of Relate personnel in responding to clients experiencing
DVA.
Objectives
- Increase awareness of the nature and effects of domestic
violence/abuse.
- Identify constraints to recognising domestic violence/abuse and
prioritising safety.
- Increase awareness of sources of help for service users at risk
from domestic violence/abuse.
- Promote implementation of Relates’ Policies on Domestic
Violence/Abuse and Child Protection.
- Increase confidence of Relate personnel and promote their skill
in responding to an initial disclosure of domestic
violence/abuse.
- Equip the person attending with the skills appropriate to their
role so as to provide a safety focussed response to an initial
disclosure of domestic violence/abuse.
