DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: AWARENESS AND SAFETY

This training is available to everyone working in Relate, whatever their role. It is foundation training for all other DVA training within Relate. It does not equip the person attending to offer assessment of DVA for an individual or couple or to offer any intervention work. The course aims to improve the quality of service for victims of DVA and their children and the quality of response to those who abuse their partners or ex partners and increase the confidence skills of Relate personnel in responding to clients experiencing Domestic Violence/Abuse. This is a one day course

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: INDIVIDUAL STRUCTURED INTERVIEWS AND ASSESSMENT & INTERVENTION:

 

A two day linked course starting with Individual Structured Interviews which is designed to equip counsellors with a model of work to assist recognition and effective response to domestic violence and abuse. The Assessment and Intervention day will assist practitioners in identifying when couple intervention is not safe or suitable; equip practitioners in using 'Bridging to Safety'; offer support and motivation with 'Bridging to Change' and when to make effective referral to more appropriate services

WORKING WITH ADULT SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ABUSE:

 The course aims to raise counsellor's consciousness & increase understanding of the issues & feelings involved when working with sexual abuse victims and their partners. This will increase your knowledge of the causes and incidence of sexual abuse and its effects on the adult survivor and their partner. You will have the opportunity to explore some ways of helping survivors of sexual abuse and their partners within couple counselling. This is a two day linked course.

CLIENT INTAKE MEETING:

this training is the Relate CPD course which has been designed to enhance & develop counselling skills in order to equip counsellors to deliver an initial consultation and assessment session with a client as opposed to on-going counselling sessions. It is appropriate for experienced counsellors (with a minimum 240 hours post qualification experience) and centre managers. This is a one day course.

INITIAL CONSULTATION:

The Initial Consultation training offers the opportunity for centres to deliver an improved intake meeting that is valuable from practitioner, service user and Relate centre perspectives. This training is appropriate for experienced practitioners who have completed either ‘Consultation with a counsellor’ or the updated version of that training, now delivered as ‘Client Intake Meeting.’ This is a one day course

MENTAL HEALTH AND COUPLE COUNSELLING:

aims to increase counsellors' confidence in assessing the appropriateness of Relate counselling and working with couples where mental health issues are present. This is a one day course which will address how to work safely and ethically with couples in this context.
