Overview:
This one-day course will provide relationship
counsellors with an overview of physical and psychological aspects
of sexual health and well-being within intimate relationships in
order to increase confidence in addressing sexual health issues in
their work.
Participants will have the opportunity to
explore the social construction of sexual health and well-being as
well aspects of both physical and psychological sexual health and
well-being. They will be encouraged to explore how issues of sexual
health and well-being may be surfaced and worked with in
relationship or family counselling contexts.
Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants will be
able to:
- Consider the social construction of concepts of sexual health
and well-being
- Identify physical aspects of sexual health and well-being
- Identify psychological aspects of sexual health and
well-being
- Consider how aspects of sexual health and well-being can impact
upon intimate relationships
- Reflect upon and consider the role and limitations of
relationship counsellors and self in relation to working with
sexual health and well-being

Trainer Biography:
Hugh Palmer is a UKCP registered systemic psychotherapist and
lecturer at the University of Hull, where he leads foundation
training in Family Therapy, and co-leads the BSc in Sexual Health
and Well-being. He has a private practice as a systemic
psychotherapist, and his professional interests include therapeutic
engagement, sexuality and bereavement.
